On The Hobby Table: April 30th
Apr 30th,2012

Hello all!

So, its been a week since I released the podcast. And the site seems to be handling traffic more often now, this means more regular content! This time I wanted to share a WIP project that I have been working on over the last couple of days. I had a ravager sitting in a box, unbuilt and ready to go, but i wanted to do something different. Now, I wanted to convert a centerpiece for my Dark Eldar force and what better than a raider for my HQ to ride on in style?

The inspiration for this design was the Dark Eldar Tantalus from forgeworld.

The biggest obstacle for me was starting to cut up the model! I wanted to be able to do it and not mess it up horribly. Anyhow, here is the a progression of pictures, the first cuts and design:

Then the general shape: Uploaded by Photobucket Mobile for BlackBerry

And the overall concept: Uploaded by Photobucket Mobile for BlackBerry

Anyhow, thanks for reading. I shall continue to work on this as it gets done. Need to do a lot of greenstuff work on it as well as eventually paint it. But one thing is for sure, my Archon will be riding in style.

Cheers!

Skari-out.

Thanks! Yeah I am looking forward to having it finished. It needs a lot of greenstuff and then a lick of paint but its def something unique.

Looks very nice, I have been pondering for some time how to do a similar conversion. Are you not worried it might be a bit short? In the picture on FW homepage it looks as it is a great deal longer than a raider. Maybe a insertion of material could be done, have thought the material Pringles chips come in. How are you going to attempt making the sail, they are a bit small in the raider/ravager kits. Looks forward to seeing your progress, and will start as soon as I get hold on one more raider.

It is the same length as a raider/ravager. The actual Tantalus is huge! This is not a stand in for a tantalus, but a personalized raider for my archon/dais for Vect. As for the sail I will be using two to make the one. ATM I am pondering the location of the guns. Thanks for the comment! And I will def post more pictures as I get her done.

    Cheers.

Aha I thought you were trying to convert a tantalus! I think you could position like the tantalus, kind of underslung at the front, or you could simply do it raider style and put one gunner with a shield on every side. As a windsurfer and physics nerd I dont think the sails would not work in that shape, but maybe in the grimdark 40k future with superior eldar tech and it does look cool! I am soon of for the summer so I will start the tantalus project in preparation for huge apocalypse game. Still wondering about how to make a raider longer.
