Welcome to my Sunday Editorial. The time I put aside each week to just type about things that mattered to me during the week in gaming, life and more. Its also the place that I can expose some of the future brain children that are brewing in my head. So read on, if you DARE.

Ok, lets get started. First thing to chat about, I am going to Sault St Marie! (its about an 8hr drive) I will be going for work for the week. As such I have (like any good wargamer) reached out to network with the gamers in the community to maybe set up a game or two. I already have a few leads for some games and I am looking foward to playing against some different opponents. Im a bit like a traveling wargamer, and I like it really broadens your horizons and perspectives on wargaming when you play with people other than your regular group, this also makes you better as a player.

Second thing is a bit of Campaign News. I am running this Campaign that starts une 2nd. 9 planets that I have built painted and put a lot of work into. Now, I have had a recent dilema regarding the painted games only rule. On one hand I have room for 18 people to join in and make this campaign huge with lots of prize support. But then doing that we would fall into the other rut, no one painting their armies. On the other hand, enforcing this rule the campaign will be smaller (I might expect 4-5 people, I might even have to play in it) and the prizes wont be as “big” but it will look awesome. And Hope that this encourages others to paint stuff in order to participate in something thats a little more exclusive. As of now, I have chosen to enforce the painted rule. I want to reward those who have painted armies and take the time to work on the hobby that we love.

Third thing. On the note of painted, I am taking my painting stuff up to the trip and hope to have more stuff done to a higher standard. I have chosen to take out my 5 unbuilt scourge from my coven list until I get them painted. So, I changed one of the 5 man units of warriors to 10 man with a darklance and then added 5 wyches with HWG and put them in the venom. This will increase my AT at range and close and give me some more objective staying power.

Lastly! Faeit (Naftka) is now back online on a blog until he gets his website up and running! Its rumour time! And just in time for the Eldar release thats comming up. Make sure you stay tuned HERE.

Well. Im going to run. Thanks a lot for tuning in. Please leave a comment. And what not

Welcome to Skaredcast. I post a daily blog. Now this is mostly about 40k and today is no different. Today I am going to talk to you about the tau Blob.

The new Tau are a very dynamic army. They have introduced quite a few dynamics into the “meta” one of them being supporting fire. Now, this game dynamic makes a tau army a lot more complicated to charge into. So today I am going to explore the mechanic and talk about it from a Tau perspective and from an enemies perspective. The name of the game is the blob.

The Tau:

As a tau commander you want to have your units support each other. Placing bait units up front, drones, kroot, allies anything to take a charge, even a unit of Firewarriors. This will of course depend on the enemy at hand. (everything is relative) but the key to it is having some damage dealing units in support to soften up, even eliminate enemy targets as they move into engage the line. After all, its in close combat that the Tau usually do not feel at home. This means that your supporting units, usually units with multiple shots, such as burst cannons, missile pods, rapid firing plasma and missilebroadsides and riptides (even upgraded HammerHeads). Now, its important to remember that multi trackers on suits only work in the Tau shooting phase, so when overwatching make sure you pick the best weapon to snap shoot. Now, this means that your units must be moved in unison and with a good idea in mind. You cant just move everything close up and risk things like a multi charge or high number of casualties die to template or blast weapons. I would illustrate with a few diagrams, but you can get the idea.

Now, as an enemy commander we can use this great strength to their disadvantage! But you have to do it smartly. The direct consequence of supporting fire is

The BLOB:

Now, the blob is apparent more and more in different battle reports that I have read/watched.

First is this one by Jy2 look at the tau here. They are all bunched up, behind their aegis. Now, this helps them support each other when the enemy closes… but it also does not help them to move out and get things like objectives and what not.

Now we also have this latest battle report over on BOLS. You can see it here and the tau bunch up in the middle of the table. The firepower is massive, and the charging marine units are annihilated in turn… but had there had been more dynamism on the marine side of things this could have been detrimental if the marines would have hit multiple units at once.

Now, one of the ways to mitigate (and to force) all supporting fire into one unit is to send a sacrificial unit to its death. Declare a multi assault against as many enemy tau units as you can with a unit that is strong enough to soak up a bit of fire, but also large enough (or close enough) to pull it off. Then the enemy has to choose to support into the bait and risk being engaged in combat, or supporting fire and hope to wipe out the enemy unit, only to have the real threat… the unit that will charge after the bait go in unhindered. Now, multi charging (or disorderly charging) agains the tau, especially when Firewarriors are involved, is fair game. They have defensive grenades so its good to remember that you wont be getting any extra attacks for charging in the first place.

These muti charges are all the easier if the enemy tau does form into a blob. And especially if they get gutsy or make mistakes in movement. Take advantage of this.

Well, thats all I have for you today.

Thanks a lot for reading!

Skari - out

Welcome to the wednesday post. I have been talking a lot about the campaign I am developing for the Gaming Community in Barrie Ontario. Now, if you are interested in seeing the player pack that I have been developing plese go HERE. Today I want to chat a bit about incorporating other gaming systems into a campaign. Now, it seems Games Workshop is no longer supporting its specialist games range. This is a shame, BattleFleetGothic and Epic are two of the best games GW have ever produced! I was lucky enough to score this book:

I am looking forward to reading through it and applying what I can to make some interesting scenarios when plating BFG within a campaign. Its a bit late to incorporate it now into the campaign that is going to start on June 2nd but I am hoping to have some sort of mechanic down pat for the next campaign in november at some point.

What do you think? Have you ever tried mixing thing up within a campaign?

Cheers!

But what about the not so well known “other” battlefield ruins? The ones we know are trenches, defense lines, impact craters. But what about?:

The Humble Forcefield Generator:

This can be a piece of terrain that you place on the table. I had no clue it existed, but, if the pieces are within 6″ of each other, they make a wall of impassable terrain… and any shooting through them will confer a 3+ invulnerable save! Awesome…

So, I dont know know about you, but these seem mighty appealing when faced off against a shooty army. I like it.

Cheers!

Welcome to my Sunday Editorial. The time I put aside each week to just type about things that mattered to me during the week in gaming, life and more. Its also the place that I can expose some of the future brain children that are brewing in my head. So read on, if you DARE.

First Thing: I am happy that the date for the start of the Campaign for the Pantheon Sector has been set. It took some logistical life planning, but now that its set in stone there is no going back. Six weeks of awesome linked gaming, I am looking forward to making it happen. There has been a lot of work that has gone into it and I cant wait to get the party started. But the community seems excited to participate. Talking of community gamers arround the globe are always playing games, making the most of the hobby.

Second thing: I wanted to share a blog. For all you German -Speaking gamers on the planet. This is Berlin Gaming . They are aimed at the competitive gaming community, having a tournament almost every week in their region and they hope that this blog will complement their playing. I recommend that you head over and even if you dont read german that you take a look at the really cool pictures from their latest battle report

That mamma tyrannid looks awesome! Its a really cool conversion. That dreadknight seems like he is in a bit of a pickle.

Thirdly: There was no Thursday Batrep this week, as I was on an island for my brothers wedding. So I thought that now that the report is up, anyone who tuned in to the editorial will get a special treat! The newest skaredcast battle report: Dark Eldar vs Necrons

Lastly: I have started posting on Reddit and Dakka once again. I had become a copy paste fiend a few months back, and I needed to take a bit of leave when it came to posting. But I am once again letting a broader audience know about my battle reports. This will increase views but also I hope make more people aware of the quality content that is out there! I encourage all readers to share stuff that you like. Comment and what not.

I pose a question. Skaredcast has a forum (you can see the link on the right) I was thinking of making a forum post for each post because it was put forth to me that not everyone uses Facebook, and that more people would want to comment and be part of the community feedback.

Well. Thats all for today.

Thanks a lot for tuning in.

From the Depths of the Port City rise the most unlikely of Archons. This is the road that I have travelled to become the Dark Eldar general that I am today. From the start till the finish, with a glimpse into the future. These will be my Tales From The Dark City. If you have not already, go check out part 1 and part 2 of this article. In this part 3, of 3, I will discuss the way that some of the new model releases affected the Kabals development. And lastly the subtle changes that had to be made with the advent of a new edition.

And so we begin our last chapter Make sure you check out part 1 and part 2.

Part 1 - Fly Like A Hummingbird, Sting Like a Lion :

The addition of the Venom to the list of things in the Kabal arsenal really changed the way that I played the game. The guns on the venom are its bite. The challenge was to not rely too much on the venoms guns and although many DE players in the “meta” began running 6-7 of them I only ever took 1 per 500pts on average. Even in these small numbers they have been deadly. It also meant that points were spent more efficiently within the other aspects of the list.

This immediately changed the way that I played the army. I was able to lay waste to entire units of infantry with little difficulty. This was just one of the units that changed the look of my ad-hoc kabal-like list. The baron was soon replaced and in came the main character. The leader of my Kabal, the almighty Archon.

Part 2: A True Leader

The Archon was a great addition to the army. Once I had chosen (in 5th edition) the agonizer as his weapon of choice he was quick to make a comeback. The venom was very small, easy to conceal, and I finally painted up my new Incubi to run with him. This made for a small, elite and killy unit.

The Kabal was slowly making a full circle. The list that I saw myself playing was once again almost identical to the army I had been playing with the old book. This was quite interesting, as it shows the subtle choices that I made as a commander but also the way that the army played. The only real change was the increase in venom firepower. The wych units has swolen to 8-9 man units rather than the small 5 man units and the incubi remained. The only thing that was missing were the jetbikes. The archon has proven to be a great addition to the army, for his point cost he is one of the most efficient characters in the game. But being an archon can prove to be a bit tricky and if that shadowfield were to short out too early, you will find yourself in a pinch. (and with a dead archon to boot)

Part 3: The Rerutn of The Reaver

One of the units that I had originally used but was lacking, were the reaver jetbikes. They had received an overhaul in the new book. All that was preventing me from using them was the lack of the new models (that are really awesome looking). I was able to get my hands on the very large Dark Eldar Holiday Box Special a few years back! And that was it, it cemented the bikes within my army.

I love the reaver jetbikes. I have another three that I am waiting to paint in order to run 9. Within the kabal they provided much needed mobile pressure and extreme contesting speed! The enemy would have to pay close attention to their location and deal with them accordingly. As a Dark Eldar commander, I love forcing my opponent to reconsider movement and to pressure his choices. This unit is the embodiment of such mentality. In the new book, their role had changed, no longer a wound pool for my Archon to get into combat (with his own jetbike) but as a support, and scalpel unit striking the enemy at their weakest point.

This brings me to my final point.

Part 4: 6th Edition

The rise of the new edition, once again saw the core of the Dark Eldar army shaken. I am still working on learning the core of the army and the synergy that it has within the new ruleset. There are a lot more tactical layers that have not been discovered for the new edition. Allies, Beasts, Venoms, all remain nasty and have been used to their best effect. I have played many a game with the DE and the new edition. I am writing a comprehensive tactica, in depth and full of knowledge on what I have learned about the Dark Kin over the years.

Well. Thanks a lot for reading. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

The Start of the warhammer 40k campaign is reaching its completion. So this is a small introduction as well as the 4 planets that will encompass phase 1 (weeks 1 and 2). If you would like to stay up to date with the player pack for the campaign that I am working on you can check it out HERE

So planet #9 - The Staging Planet with a couple of Starports.

Work still needs to be done, but this is ready to go. Anyone with a starport will get some cool abilities within the campaign.

Planet #8 - One of the Main Hab Planets.

This planet was one of the earliest settlements of the system. It soon declined in renown and power when the Agricultural Guilds got a hold of the larger and more productive aggriworld.

Planet #7 - The Ice Planet .

Was mainly used as a military training planet. The harsh environment made for great hazardous tactical environ scenarios. During the conflict the surface was heavily bombed forcing any survivors deeper into the complexes underground.

Planet #6 - The Aggriworld

The main source of wealth for the Guilds of the system. The planet with the largest surface area in the system and the most fertile lands and lakes of fresh water (used for irrigation). This planet saw some of the bloodiest fighting as the food supply was at stake. There have been reports of biological and neurological agents used in an attempt to gain the upper hand.

Well. Thanks what I have for today.

:D

Cheers! Skari - out.
